Mercury in Leo (Mercury Retrograde)

On July 26th, Mercury moved into a retrograde motion appearing to move (but not really) backwards in the sky. This energy is particularly tumultuous while being in the sign of Leo, because of the position of arguing and fighting that this is able to create between two people. This energy is met with a stubbornness and impatience that is hard to bear, and is able to create tinges of jealousy, dysfunction, and disharmony. So much of this energy comes from the forwardness that Leo is able to bring about, which is marked in the Tarot as the Strength card, but with Mercury (the Magician) showing its darker side, this is able to thwart strength and bring forward stances of weakness.

Of course, the same rules apply to all things technology, travel, and communication being delayed, hindered, and met with misunderstandings, but an added degree of what this energy is able to create comes from the arguments that people would be able to have, as a result of technology being messed up, flights being delayed, cars breaking down, etc. Having a conscious awareness of this energy is able to help, to a degree, but remembering that there are things that occur that are beyond our control is certainly something that will want to be paid attention to. With Mars in Aquarius, also in retrograde, this isn’t going to create a positive start to this, which will also want to be taken into consideration. Appearances of strength will be seen by others as weakness, and when weakness is able to be hidden, typically, during this retrograde, it will develop a very stark vision for individuals to see through the facade that tries to mask this stance of weakness.

The more that we try to push something to happen during this time, the more it will backfire and blow up in our faces, especially when it comes to romantic connections. Finding a job during this time can actually be good for water and earth signs, but this is such that it would create disharmony in the workplace, because of a lack of a clear vision and direction from the employer. Remembering to go with the flow, to take deep breaths when things don’t go how we need them to, and to be compassionate to others that we are able to see struggling during this time are ways that Mercury can be merciful in its lesser state of this retrograde.
